Digital Citizenship in a Connected World

The internet is a wonderful teacher and a poor master. How we help children — and parents — build healthy screen-time habits and carry everyday kindness into the online world.

Our children are growing up in a world we never knew as students. A question that once meant a trip to the library is now answered in seconds on a small glowing screen. This is a gift — but like every gift, it must be handled with care. At Wendy, we believe our task is not to fear technology, but to teach children to use it wisely and kindly.

Screen-time, in balance

A screen is a wonderful teacher and a poor master. We encourage families to keep a gentle balance at home — time for the tablet, yes, but also time for books, for play in the open air, and for conversation at the dinner table. Children take their cues from us; when the adults around them model balance, children quietly learn it too.

Kindness travels online

We remind our students of a simple rule: be the same person online as you are in the classroom. The internet can make unkindness feel distant and consequence-free, but a real child always sits at the other end. Good digital citizens guard their privacy, question what they read, and treat others with the courtesy we expect in our corridors.

Technology will keep changing. Character does not. If we raise thoughtful, careful, kind young people, they will meet whatever comes next with confidence.
